It is a large green tree, which can grow up to 15-30 meters tall and 30 meters wide with a trunk of up to 3.7 meters in girth. It grows best in well drained sandy loam soil. The iconic fruit is an irregular, egg shaped fruit which is a fleshy drupe. They are typically 8- 12 cm long and are green in colour, turning yellow as they ripe. They can be round, oval, heart shaped etc. The plant is cultivated in orchards all over the world for its juicy and fleshy fruit. Once the tree stops producing fruits, it may be used for obtaining lumbar to produce musical instruments.
